IRCTC Refund Service : Indian Railway Discontinued THIS Facility, Money will Not be Refunded
New Delhi. Indian Railways has discontinued a very important facility provided to its passengers. This has been disclosed by the Railways itself in the information sought under the Right to Information (RTI).
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has informed in response to the RTI that the facility of refund on delay of trains has been discontinued. Obviously, now you will not be able to claim refund on your ticket money if the train is late.
Refund is available but…
According to IRCTC, under the train delay refund scheme, compensation of about Rs 26 lakh has been given between October 4, 2019 and February 16, 2024. In the financial year 2023-24 alone, compensation of Rs 15.65 lakh has been given to the passengers. However, the facility of compensation for delay in private trains has been discontinued from February 15, 2024.
How many private trains does the Railways have?
IRCTC has stopped refund in case of train delay, but has refused to give the reason for it. Indian Railways currently runs two private trains named Tejas. One train runs from New Delhi to Lucknow, which was started on October 4, 2019. The second Tejas train runs between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, which was started on January 17, 2020.
How much refund was given in which year
Talking about the refund given by the railways, a refund of Rs 1.78 lakh was given in 2019-20, while there was zero refund in 2020-21. Next year in 2021-22, compensation of Rs 96 thousand was given to the passengers, while a refund of Rs 7.74 lakh was given in 2022-23. In the last financial year 2023-24, IRCTC has given a refund of Rs 15.65 lakh.
