Unnao History

After the freedom struggle of 1857–1858, power was transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown. As soon as the order was restored, the civil administration was re -established in the district named Unnao, along with the headquarters in Unnao. The size of the district was small till 1869, when it was taken in its current form. In the same year, a city of Unnao was formed a municipality.

History of district as administrative unit

In 1896, Pargana Panhan Patan, Bihar, Bhagwannagar, Magayarr, Ghatampur and Daundia Kheda were transferred from district Rae Bareli to Purva Tehsil in the district, and transferred from Pargana Ashras-Mohan district Lucknow to old tehsil Nawabganj in this district. The Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, which is renamed as Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, is a bird sanctuary located in Unnao district on Kanpur-Lucknow highway in Uttar Pradesh, with a Lake and surrounding environment.
