Unnao History
After the freedom struggle of 1857–1858, power was transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown. As soon as the order was restored, the civil administration was re -established in the district named Unnao, along with the headquarters in Unnao. The size of the district was small till 1869, when it was taken in its current form. In the same year, a city of Unnao was formed a municipality.
In ancient times, the current district of Unnao became part of the area known as Kosala and was later included in Awadh’s Subha or Bus Awadh. History of district as administrative unit

The district included 13 parganas i.e. Bangarmu, Fatehpur Chaurasi, Sipipur, Parir, Sikanderpur, Unnao, Harha, Asivan-Rasulabad, Jhalotar-Azgain, Gorinda Prasad, Purwa, Asha and Maunwan. In 1896, Pargana Panhan Patan, Bihar, Bhagwannagar, Magayarr, Ghatampur and Daundia Kheda were transferred from district Rae Bareli to Purva Tehsil in the district, and transferred from Pargana Ashras-Mohan district Lucknow to old tehsil Nawabganj in this district. The Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, which is renamed as Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, is a bird sanctuary located in Unnao district on Kanpur-Lucknow highway in Uttar Pradesh, with a Lake and surrounding environment. It is one of the many wetlands in northern India. The sanctuary provides protection for 250 species of migratory birds from most CIS (or east USSR) countries, but the number has been declining since the 1990s, mostly transferring to new areas in Himachal and Rajasthan.
