Lucknow: UP recorded a 45.4% increase in excise exports in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year — April-June 2026 — underscoring the momentum injected by the excise export policy, state govt said on Tuesday.In contrast, the national growth rate stood at 18.3% — meaning that the state’s growth was more than double the national average. In terms of volume, the state’s exports surged by 163%. A significant achievement was the state recording an additional export value of approximately USD 3.99 million.According to a state govt spokesperson, agricultural products played a pivotal role in this expanding export chain. Molasses weighing 25,000 quintals was exported from Basti, generating foreign exchange earnings of approximately USD 500,000.This demonstrates that agricultural produce is no longer confined to local markets. Instead, following processing, it is becoming an integral part of the global market.The growing export potential has not only attracted new investment to the state but also revitalised existing industrial capacity.Officials said that new units are being established by United Breweries in Unnao and Mount Everest Breweries in Hardoi. Additionally, Woodpecker GreenAgri Nutrients has set up a unit in Farrukhabad.Meanwhile, Allied Blenders and Distillers has restarted its closed unit in Moradabad. Gorakhpur-based Kian Distillery has applied for licences for a beverage distillery and brewery, in addition to ethanol production.According to departmental data, Radico Khaitan is also shifting export production from other states to its plants in Sitapur and Rampur.Between April and June 2026, the country recorded excise exports worth approximately USD 101.7 million. Uttar Pradesh’s share in this was about USD 12.78 million, up from USD 8.79 million during the same period the previous year. This represented an increase of approximately USD 3.99 million in just one year.UP’s share of national exports rose from 10.2% to 12.6%, placing the state at the third spot after Maharashtra and Punjab.Excise commissioner Adarsh Singh said that the impact of the rise in exports is not limited to excise units alone. The industry’s upstream links connect to agricultural products such as sugarcane, molasses, and grains, while downstream sectors include glass bottles, packaging, caps, labelling, storage, and transportation.
