Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh became the first state in the country to see more than 1 lakh farmers applying for the digital e-Kisan Credit Card through a dedicated portal and mobile app. Karnataka ranks second with around 95,000 applications, while Haryana is third with approximately 42,000 applications. The development comes nearly eight months after CM Yogi Adityanath launched the Digital KCC facility, operated by NABARD, in Feb, after which the initiative gained momentum in the state. The measure is projected as an important step toward making access to agricultural credit easier for small and marginal farmers. “Farmers no longer need to visit bank branches repeatedly to obtain loans. The facility to apply and complete the process digitally from home is saving farmers both time and effort,” cooperative minister JPS Rathore said. The objective of the scheme is to connect farmers to the agricultural credit system through technology and simplify the loan-obtaining process.
