Uttar Pradesh News: In the wake of the distressing incident at a government hospital in Kolkata, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a series of stringent measures to safeguard the security of women in the workplace.

UP Women Safety Measures At Workplace

Detailed guidelines have been issued by the state authorities, requiring all government and private institutions to prioritise the wellbeing of their female employees. Employers have been instructed to ensure that women do not work beyond the stipulated hours and, if necessary, to arrange for police vehicles (PRVs) to escort them home at night.

UP: Mandate To Provide Separate Washrooms And Form Internal Complaints Committees

Emphasising the importance of regular security audits, the directives mandate the provision of separate and secure restrooms and toilets for women in the workplace. Additionally, institutions are required to form internal complaints committees in compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act-2013.

UP: Arrange monitored transport, Deploy CCTV, Security Personnel, Issue Identity Card

Deepak Kumar, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, has issued detailed instructions to prevent harassment and violence against women in the workplace. Employers must arrange for reliable and monitored transport services, deploy CCTV cameras, access control systems and security personnel to monitor the workplace premises. Furthermore, all employees must be issued identity cards.

UP Police Directed To Compile A Station-Wise List THESE Organisations

The police have been directed to compile a station-wise list of call centres, health institutions, offices, business establishments, malls, cinema halls, hotels, railway stations and bus stands and to ensure enhanced security arrangements, particularly at night. Sensitive routes leading to these establishments have been identified and UP 112 PRVs have been instructed to be stationed at these locations.

UP Govt Mandates Availability Of Officers Round All Time

In addition, clear display of emergency contact numbers and the availability of a designated officer round the clock have been mandated. Visitor details must also be meticulously recorded in the register and regular security audits must be conducted. The authorities have also emphasised the need for strict action against those who commit acts of violence or misconduct against women and other workers in health institutions.
