Lucknow: Timely treatment during the “golden hour” (the hour after a serious emergency) can significantly improve survival and recovery, said Dr Lokendra Gupta, founder and national president of Society of Acute Care, Trauma and Emergency Medicine (SACTEM), on the concluding day of a conference on emergency and trauma care. The three-day conclave focused on improving emergency care, especially in districts far from major hospitals. Experts said rapid action is critical in road accidents, heart attacks, strokes and cardiac arrests. They urged the public to call emergency services immediately and provide basic first aid. For accident victims, keeping the injured person still and controlling severe bleeding can save lives. Chest pain, breathlessness and sweating require urgent medical attention, while stroke symptoms such as facial drooping, weakness and speech difficulty need immediate treatment. In cases of cardiac arrest, bystanders should call for help and begin CPR if possible.Faculty of trauma surgery at KGMU, Prof Samir Misra, said training healthcare workers at the district level could improve survival rates, particularly among accident victims.
