Shukra Asta During Navratri 2026: Are Wedding Dates Affected? What Families Should Know
Shukra Asta occurs from 19 October to 29 October 2026, marking a significant period that affects wedding plans. Traditionally, marriages are paused during Chaturmas, lasting until 20 November. Following this interval, a brief opportunity for weddings appears before Kharmas commences on 16 December. Additionally, Venus will be retrograde from 3 October to 14 November, necessitating careful consideration of wedding dates.

If there’s a wedding in your family this winter, you’ve probably heard relatives whispering about “Shukra asta.” Some are worried that dates will be cancelled. Others say the whole season is in trouble. Here’s the reassuring part first. Shukra Asta this year doesn’t take away any wedding dates. But there are a few things about this year’s planetary setup that families should plan around.

When Is Shukra Asta in 2026?

Venus becomes combust, or asta, when it moves too close to the Sun. In 2026, this happens in Tula Rashi.By the standard degree-based rule, Shukra Asta runs from Monday, 19 October to Thursday, 29 October. Some panchangs calculate it by when Venus actually disappears from view. They place it from about 12 or 13 October to 28 or 29 October.Either way, it begins during Navratri and ends a few days after Dussehra.

Why Venus Matters for Marriage

In Vedic astrology, Shukra is the karaka of the spouse and married happiness. Guru, or Jupiter, represents blessings and dharma. Muhurat rules are strict about this: no vivah when either of these two planets is asta. The belief is simple. When the planet of love is hidden by the Sun’s glare, its blessings are said to be weak.

So Why Aren’t Any Dates Lost?

Because weddings are already on hold. Chaturmas, the four months when Lord Vishnu is believed to rest, is still running in October. Traditional families don’t fix marriages during this period anyway.Chaturmas ends on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Friday, 20 November 2026. By then, Venus is no longer combust. So the asta period falls entirely inside a window that was closed to weddings already.

The Real Concern: A Very Short Season

What families should actually watch out for is time.Wedding muhurats open after 20 November. But Kharmas begins on 16 December, when the Sun enters Dhanu Rashi. Marriages pause again until mid-January.That leaves roughly three and a half weeks of wedding dates for the entire winter season.

Venus Retrograde Adds Another Layer

Shukra also turned vakri, or retrograde, on 3 October. It turns direct on Saturday, 14 November, a few days before wedding season starts. That’s good timing. There’s one catch. Venus slips back into Kanya Rashi, its sign of debilitation, on 6 November. It stays there until 22 November, when it returns to Tula.So the first two or three days of the wedding season have Venus in a weak sign. Many astrologers prefer dates after 22 November for this reason. If your family is choosing between dates, ask your pandit whether a later one works better.

What to Avoid During Shukra Asta

Even though the wedding itself isn’t affected, certain related activities are usually avoided while Venus is combust, between roughly 19 and 29 October:·Roka, sagai or engagement ceremonies·Buying the bride’s wedding jewellery or bridal lehenga·Matchmaking meetings or finalising a rishta·Starting a new romantic relationshipSome families even delay sending wedding cards until Venus is out of asta. That’s a personal choice, though.

What You Can Do Now

Use these weeks for planning that doesn’t involve Venus-ruled purchases. Shortlist venues, compare caterers and draft the guest list. Get your kundli matching done if it’s still pending.Once Shukra Asta ends on 29 October, jewellery shopping is generally considered fine. Dhanteras on 6 November is a popular choice, though Venus is still retrograde then. Plain gold is less affected than diamonds or designer pieces.

Simple Remedies for Shukra

Chant “Om Shum Shukraya Namah” 108 times on Fridays. Offering white sweets or kheer to young girls is believed to strengthen Venus.During Navratri, Maa Chandraghanta is linked with Shukra. Her day falls on 13 October. Families with an upcoming wedding can offer her milk-based bhog with a prayer for a harmonious marriage.

Check Your Own Dates

General dates are only a starting point. A good vivah muhurat also depends on the bride’s and groom’s birth charts. Share both kundlis with your family pandit before fixing anything.Dates follow Lahiri ayanamsa and standard panchang calculations. Timings can vary by method, so confirm with your local panchang.
