Lucknow: Several parts of the city remained waterlogged on Wednesday, hours after the rain stopped, disrupting traffic and daily activities and leaving residents struggling to access roads, schools, workplaces and markets.Residents of several affected localities said water had not receded even after several hours without rainfall and urged civic authorities to intensify pumping operations and clear waterlogged stretches at the earliest. Waterlogging persisted in Bhootnath, Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar, Jankipuram, Chinhat, Vikrant Khand-3, Keshavnagar and along Lekhraj Marg, affecting both vehicular and pedestrian movement. Residents said roads remained submerged for hours after the rain had stopped, making commuting difficult.In Lekhraj Market, water rose above knee level in some stretches, restricting access to shops and affecting business activities. Similar conditions were reported from Ghaila Road near Judwa Mandir, Hanumant Puram 2nd and Fazullaganj, where accumulated rainwater covered portions of roads.Residents of Jankipuram Sector-D under Sitapur Road Yojana said waterlogging was reported from around 5.42 am, affecting movement during the morning rush hour. In Hari Nagar, Balaganj, schoolchildren faced difficulty leaving for school due to waterlogged roads.Waterlogging was also reported near Kathauta Lake area, affecting movement in the surrounding areas.In LDA Colony, heaps of roadside garbage remained soaked in rainwater, leading to a foul smell and raising sanitation concerns. Residents said stagnant water and waste could pose health risks if not cleared promptly. Vibhuti Khand was also among hit areas, with ankle-deep water reported on several roads. The waterlogging disrupted movement and even affected stray animals. “I saw the dog trapped in a drain and immediately rescued it,” said resident Sushila Thakur.The impact of waterlogging was also felt in Phoolbagh, where water from open drains affected access to the area and disrupted business activity. “Stagnant water and open drains are keeping customers away,” said restaurant owner Faiz Qureshi.In Keshavnagar, residents said waterlogging on several stretches had made it difficult to step out of their homes. “We haven’t been able to step out since Tuesday evening. Delivery services have also stopped coming here,” said resident Ram Prasad.The rainfall also exposed damaged road stretches in some localities. At Ashray in Eldeco-2, under LMC Zone-8’s Ibrahimipur ward, several potholes were reported along a lakeside road. Water accumulated around the damaged portions, making it difficult for motorists to gauge their depth.In a separate incident, a wall of an old house collapsed in Golaganj following the rainfall. The rear wall also collapsed, bringing down an adjoining boundary wall. No injuries were reported as nobody was present near the structure at the time of the incident.The collapse renewed concerns over the condition of ageing buildings in the city during the monsoon season, even as several neighbourhoods continued to grapple with waterlogging.Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) officials said pumping sets had been deployed at multiple locations to remove accumulated rainwater. However, residents in many areas said water remained stagnant on roads well into Wednesday and called for faster response measures. LMC chief engineer Mahesh Chandra Verma said, “All water accumulation across major roads and residential areas following Tuesday’s rainfall is being cleared.” (Inputs from Mariyam Shakeel)
