Political songs at Hardoi religious event spark clash; 45 booked

Lucknow: A dispute over songs played during a Dadhi Utsav in Hardoi escalated into violence, with police booking five named accused and 40 unidentified persons for alleged assault and intimidation.The clash occurred on Sept 10 at a religious function in Rehariyamau hamlet of Mahgawan village. According to a complaint filed by village resident Deshraj, a political song was repeatedly played while women performed on stage.Deshraj alleged that when he requested organisers to play a Lord Krishna bhajan instead, an argument broke out with Raju Yadav, Durgesh Yadav, Vivek Yadav, Sachin Yadav and Ritesh Yadav.The complaint alleged that the accused abused him, used casteist remarks and assaulted him. The situation worsened as more people gathered at the venue, leading to a clash in which Ranjit and Arun were injured. and later taken for treatmentDeshraj alleged that several members of his group, including women and children, were chased, assaulted and threatened with consequences if they continued to stay in the village.Videos purportedly showing women dancing to politically themed songs at the religious event surfaced on social media.Atrauli SHO Shivakant Pandey said police are investigating the assault allegations, examining the circumstances that triggered the clash, and identifying those named in the FIR.
