Lucknow: A man was caught at SGPGI’s new OPD building on Wednesday, attempting to dupe an elderly woman of her jewellery by misinforming her that a doctor had called her in for a knee examination.A security guard noticed the woman removing her jewellery and handing it to the man. When questioned, the man tried to flee but was chased and caught by the guard with the help of other security personnel.A gold mangalsutra-like locket and an earring were recovered from him. The woman identified the jewellery as hers.According to SGPGI security officials, the woman’s son had gone to the OPD pharmacy to collect medicines when the accused approached her. Saying that the doctor would examine her knee and that wearing jewellery inside the examination room was prohibited, he asked her to remove her jewellery and hand it over to him.The security guard intervened before the man could leave with the jewellery.SGPGI assistant security officer Dhananjay Kumar Pandey said legal action was being initiated to register an FIR against the accused, identified as Guru Prasad, under relevant sections.
