On the concluding day of the Lucknow Sanatkada Festival, art lovers got an opportunity to learn Bihar’s famous Madhubani painting from an expert during the session “Craft Demonstration: Madhubani Painting by Hira Devi”.Madhubani art expert Hira Devi demonstrated to participants how to draw sketches in the traditional style. She drew animals, flowers and geometrical designs using a nib pen on handmade paper with special ink prepared by mixing kohl and gond (glue). Thereafter, she asked participants to fill the drawings with organic colours extracted from flowers and made from sindoor, kohl, turmeric and beetroot. She also explained that various symbols in Madhubani art denote different emotions like fish symbolise good luck, peacocks represent love, elephants signify good luck, and trees stand for long life.
