The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will begin the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 tomorrow, August 27. Eligible candidates will be able to apply for admission to Master of Technology (MTech) and PhD programmes and recruitment to Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).The GATE 2027 registration window will remain open until September 27. Candidates will have to complete the application process through the official GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
GATE 2027 important dates
The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted on February 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027.The city intimation slip for candidates will be issued on January 4, 2027. The GATE 2027 results will be announced on March 19.The scores will be used for admission to MTech and PhD programmes at IITs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc), as well as for recruitment to PSUs.
GATE 2027 eligibility
Candidates with any government-approved undergraduate degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities can apply for GATE 2027.Students in the third year or above of a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programme are also eligible. This includes students who entered the second year of the BE programme after completing a diploma.Candidates can appear for up to two GATE papers. They should choose papers that are relevant to their degree or field of study.
GATE 2027 application fee
Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories will have to pay an application fee of Rs 1,000.For other candidates, including foreign nationals, the application fee is Rs 2,000.

- Click on the registration link for GATE 2027.
- Register and generate an enrolment ID and password.
- Log in using the registered credentials.
- Fill in the required details.
- Upload the required documents and complete the other formalities.
- Pay the application fee.
- Submit the application form and save a copy for future reference.
GATE 2027 exam pattern
The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The question paper will be available only in English.The examination will include 30 test papers. As per the marking scheme, one-third of the marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer to a one-mark question.For a wrong answer to a two-mark question, two-thirds of the marks will be deducted.Candidates are advised to check the official GATE 2027 website for the detailed syllabus, paper combinations and other examination-related information before submitting their applications.
