Focus on jobs, inflation, not renaming projects: Rai

Lucknow: Congress neta Ajay Rai on Friday questioned the move to name Jewar airport after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.“Govt should focus on unemployment, inflation and farmers’ concerns instead of naming public institutions after political leaders,” he told reporters.Referring to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Rai asked: “What would ordinary citizens gain from naming another major public facility after the prime minister? People need jobs and relief from inflation, not just the renaming of public institutions.”Rai said the performance of a govt should be judged by employment generation, fair prices for farmers, access to healthcare and improvements in public education. He also called for better recruitment processes and time-bound opportunities for youth seeking govt jobs.Questioning govt’s priorities, he said: “Public infrastructure should be assessed by the facilities it provides, its contribution to economic growth and the employment opportunities it creates.”He added that the naming of public institutions should respect the country’s historical legacy and regional identity.
