Lucknow: A 46-year-old woman and her 27-year-old male companion were found hanging in a hotel room in Bahraich, nearly 10 days after they checked in as a married couple, police said.The bodies were discovered late on Thursday night in Room 201 of Avadh Kailash Hotel, located opposite the district hospital in Kotwali Nagar area. According to hotel staff, the two had checked in on Sept 22 and told employees that they had come to the city in connection with work.On Thursday, after the couple failed to order food or any other items following breakfast, hotel staff became suspicious. When the two did not respond to repeated knocks, the staff informed police and broke open the door, only to find them hanging.Police and forensic teams examined the room, but no suicide note was recovered. However, an Instagram reel posted a day before the deaths was found on the man’s account. The reel reportedly showed the two together inside the same hotel room, with a Haryanvi song playing in the background.Police said the two had been staying together since Sept 22. The woman was from Gautam Budh Nagar, while the man was a resident of Shravasti. The man had reportedly been working as a contractual electrician/lineman in Noida.Police said the man’s family told investigators that he had got married in July this year, but his wife had not yet been sent to his marital home. His family members also said they were unaware of his association with the woman.CO Narayan Dutt Mishra said no suicide note had been found and that the reason behind the deaths was yet to be established. Police are examining hotel records, CCTV footage and other available evidence as part of the investigation.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further action would be taken based on the findings and the investigation.
