Lucknow: Upset over his 20-year-old daughter’s inter-caste marriage against the family’s wishes, a farmer in Chandauli performed her symbolic funeral rites and declared that he has severed all ties with her.The incident was reported on Saturday in a village, about three kilometres from the district headquarters.According to family members, the farmer conducted a symbolic ‘pind daan’ and other post-death rituals under a peepal tree near his residence.The woman was in a relationship with a 24-year-old man and left home about two months ago. The couple later got married and are currently residing in Sonbhadra.The family said that repeated efforts were made to persuade her to return home, but she refused, due to which tension escalated.“I was deeply hurt by my daughter’s decision to marry without our consent. This symbolic act is an expression of my anguish and disappointment. I don’t consider her a part of my family,” the farmer said.“We raised her with love and care. Her choice of partner from another caste has caused emotional distress to the entire family,” the woman’s uncle said.No complaint was lodged by the family in this connection.
