Lucknow: The menace of banned Chinese manjha continues on city roads, with former zila panchayat member Sunny Kumar Yadav (40) injured after a razor-sharp kite string allegedly struck him near Burlington Crossing on Tuesday.Yadav said he was riding his motorcycle from Sitapur to Lucknow for personal work when the string suddenly came in contact with him. He was taken to a private hospital, treated, and is reported to be stable.The incident has renewed focus on the continued availability and use of Chinese manjha in Lucknow despite a ban and periodic enforcement drives.Expressing anger over repeated injuries, Yadav questioned the effectiveness of the restrictions. “The administration knows Chinese manjha is dangerous and banned, yet it continues to reach the streets and injure innocent people. If sellers continue to operate freely despite the ban, who will take responsibility when it claims a life?” he said.The latest case follows a string of similar accidents reported in recent weeks. On Sept 24, Ajmi Hussain (41), a property dealer from Thakurganj, suffered a severe neck injury when Chinese manjha reportedly became entangled around his throat near the Nauwasta railway overbridge in Kakori. Doctors administered 10 stitches after the string cut deep into his neck.On Sept 14, Allahabad high court Lucknow Bench advocate Raghavendra Dwivedi sustained a deep facial injury near City Station when Chinese manjha reportedly slashed his nose while he rode a motorcycle. His helmet prevented a potentially fatal neck injury, though he required three stitches.
