Trump Commemorates 25th Anniversary of 9/11

President Donald Trump commemorated 25 years since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, at the Pentagon, where he delivered a heartfelt speech in the company of other U.S. officials.

The Pentagon was one of the sites targeted by radical Islamic terrorists on that fateful day, where 184 lives were taken at this site.

“In 25 years, a generation has passed since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. Yet time has not dimmed the horror of that day when our country came face to face with true evil,” Trump said.

At Ground Zero, family members of the 2,977 victims read out the names of those who had died.

The United States suffered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in its history when members of the al-Qaeda terrorist group hijacked passenger jets and flew them into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. A third plane heading for the U.S. Capitol crash-landed in a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

Huawei’s Prosecution Begins

The trial for Chinese telecom giant Huawei began this week in New York City. The company faces 14 counts, including racketeering and conspiracy to steal trade secrets, as well as violating sanctions by dealing with North Korea and Iran.

The company allegedly created policies and maintained a culture that rewarded employees for obtaining confidential information from competitors, in a years-long effort to undermine national security.

Huawei has pleaded not guilty.

This case follows the 2018 arrest of senior executive Meng Wanzhou in Canada. Wanzhou was repatriated to China after reaching a plea deal with U.S. prosecutors.

Shortly afterward, Huawei was placed on a blacklist that forbids U.S. companies and their affiliates from dealing with the company.

Tate Brothers to Remain in Custody

Social media influencers, Andrew and Tristan Tate, are to remain in custody while they fight extradition to the UK, a judge ruled on Sept. 9, in the latest of a series of legal battles against charges of rape, assault, and human trafficking.

The judge has denied them bail while the courts consider their case, citing concerns that they may be a flight risk.

The Tate brothers, who are dual U.S.–UK citizens, deny the allegations and claim they are being treated unfairly and are suffering terrible conditions.

They face similar allegations in Romania.

Hawaii Cleans Up After Hurricane Lowell

Hawaii is recovering from Hurricane Lowell, which killed two men and left the Big Island devastated and without power for most of the week, as clean-up work continues after its worst storm in years.

Mere weeks after Hurricane Lala hit Hawaii’s main island, Lowell struck 80 miles west of the islands late Sept. 7 as a Category 2 hurricane, leaving 90 percent of the island of Kauai without power and forcing 300 people to evacuate their coastal homes.

Downed trees, utility poles, and power lines were reported across the island, with some coastal homes destroyed.

As of Sept. 10, power had been restored to 66 percent of Kauai, according to the island’s utility network.

Supreme Court Ends Missouri Redistricting Battle

One of the nation’s most hotly contested redistricting battles ended on Sept. 10, after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked Missouri from using a Republican-favored redistricting map for the midterm elections in November, prompting the state to abandon its efforts.

In 2025, the Republican-controlled state house, as part of a mid-decade redistricting push, redrew its 2022 congressional map, which favored Republicans 6–2, to give them a further 7–1 advantage.

The 2025 map was then used during the August 2026 primaries.

A series of legal battles ensued after a petition by Democrats led the Missouri Supreme Court on Sept. 3 to block the 2025 map.

On Sept. 8, a petition by Republicans was denied by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, a separate lawsuit filed by Republicans with U.S. District Judge Stephen Clark in the Eastern District of Missouri, minutes later, allowed them to use the 2025 map, which they proceeded with.

On Sept. 9, however, the Missouri Supreme Court held Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, who led the push, in contempt for disobeying its previous order.

On Sept. 10, the U.S. Supreme Court paused Clark’s ruling, causing Hoskins to relinquish the fight.

The Missouri Supreme Court decided to issue no penalty.

Trump Pledges $5,000 for Americans

President Donald Trump has promised to issue $5,000 to every American adult if Republicans win the House and Senate in the coming midterm elections in November.

Trump made the surprise announcement at the 2026 Republican National Convention in Dallas on Sept. 9.

“Your vote will decide whether our country stumbles at the starting gate of the next 250 years or surges forward and never ever looks back,” he said at the conference.

The convention was held in Dallas over Sept. 9–10 ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

TSA Launches New Airport Program

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has relaxed some rules back to pre-9/11 conditions, allowing non-travelers to pass through airport security.

Launched in early September, the Gateside program by TSA PreCheck was introduced in 13 airports, allowing friends or family members of plane ticket holders to access a day pass free of charge in terminals, where they can accompany them to gates.

The TSA was created to heighten security at airports shortly after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and was signed into law by President George W. Bush on Nov. 19, 2001.
