After Gomti floods Lucknow, CM Yogi Adityanath orders embankment plan from Faizullaganj to Naimish
After recent inspections, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the need for flood protection in multiple areas

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for constructing an embankment along the Gomti River from Faizullaganj in Lucknow to Naimish in Sitapur after reviewing flood affected areas through aerial and ground inspections. The chief minister surveyed inundated localities in Faizullaganj and Bakshi Ka Talab, where scores of residents have been affected by flooding triggered by the swollen Gomti.During the inspection, he instructed the irrigation department to undertake a detailed survey to identify stretches requiring flood protection works.Principal secretary, irrigation and water resources department, Anil Garg, said “The department would conduct the survey for the proposed embankment, while the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) would continue work on the Green Corridor project already under execution.”He said the survey would identify the remaining vulnerable stretches where embankments are required, while areas covered under the Green Corridor would continue to be developed by the LDA.The chief minister also asked officials to identify locations where pumping stations could be installed to drain water from flood prone localities. The LDA said its ongoing Green Corridor project has already acted as a protective barrier against the rising Gomti. The authority is constructing a 28km Green Corridor along the river, including an 11 km embankment between Pipraghat, Shaheed Path and Kisan Path.According to the LDA, the embankment has protected nearly five lakh residents in Gomti Nagar Extension, CG City, Sarsawan, Malhaur and adjoining areas from flooding despite the sharp rise in the river’s water level.LDA vice chairman Prathamesh Kumar said work on the Rs 300 crore embankment is expected to be completed by April 2027.He added that a separate Rs 182 crore embankment is proposed on the Gomti’s left bank from IIM Road to Hardinge Bridge via Khadra. The project is expected to provide a permanent solution to flooding in Faizullaganj, Daud Nagar, Mama Colony and nearby areas.
