A family in Parli, in Maharashtra’s Beed district, gave a grand welcome to a newborn baby girl after a 200-year wait for a daughter in the household. The Dahifale family organised a special procession to bring the baby, named Gargi, and her mother home after they were discharged from the hospital.According to an IANS report, the family arranged a flower-decorated chariot to carry the mother and baby, with the procession accompanied by the beating of drums and clashing of cymbals. Locals also joined in the festivities, and the family treated the newborn like royalty throughout the celebration.The baby’s mother, identified as Kalpana Rishikesh Dahiphale, gave birth to Gargi, who the family says is the first girl to be born into the Dahifale household in roughly two centuries, spanning five generations. According to reports by IANS, the family belongs to Parli taluka, while the grandfather’s native village is Kolwadi in Ahmedpur taluka of Latur district.
The newborn’s grandfather gets emotional
Gargi’s grandfather, Limbaji Dahifale, got emotional while talking about the occasion. According to India Today, he said, “It is a great fortune to have a daughter in the family.” He added that the family had long carried the regret of not having a daughter, a feeling that has finally been put to rest with Gargi’s arrival.Her grandmother, Surekha Dahifale, was equally overjoyed. She referred to the newborn as “Lakshmi Devi”, invoking the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.Gargi’s father also spoke about what the birth meant to him personally. He said that raising a daughter brings a distinct kind of happiness, saying that daughters usually share a special bond with their fathers, and that the family intends to raise her “like a flower.”
