Ahmedabad: The father of a 17-year-old girl from the city’s eastern area approached the Abhayam helpline for women after the girl was allegedly sexually exploited by a youth on the false promise of marriage. A team from the helpline took the family to a police station for an FIR against the accused.“The girl is 17 and her boyfriend is 22. They were in a relationship for two years. They had a physical relationship and the youth promised he would marry her. When the girl’s family came to know about the relationship, they sought a guarantee that he would not go back on his promise when she is of legal age. He refused to commit, and the family asked the girl to sever ties,” said a counsellor.About five days after the agreement, the youth allegedly abducted the girl, raped her and assaulted her over what transpired between the families. The girl’s family members, who went to his house with counsellors, were also threatened. The counsellors then sought police intervention.
