MC tenure ends but ex-councillors’ signboards still up

Panchkula: A month after the tenure of the Municipal Corporation (MC) ended on Jan 5, several information boards carrying the names and identities of former councillors and the ex-mayor remain installed across the city. As per MC norms, all such boards related to elected representatives must be taken down immediately after completion of their term to prevent any direct or indirect favour to an individual or political party. However, many of these signboards are still visible along roadsides, outside residences, and within wards previously represented by them.Their continued presence has become a major point of discussion in the city, especially as the election process has started with delimitation of wards. Residents expressed concern that these boards could influence public perception during the pre-election period. Citizens also said many of the boards displayed addresses of former councillors and political leaders and obstructed pedestrian movement in several places, creating inconvenience and safety issues.Members of the Citizens Welfare Association (CWA) urged authorities to act immediately. The association demanded that all such boards be removed from public spaces on priority. It said the removal was essential to ensure free, fair, transparent and impartial MC elections in Panchkula.
