Victims Pooja Sahu and her mother Shyam Dulari

LUCKNOW: Home guard Ravindra Shankar Sahu, who allegedly strangled his wife and 32-year-old daughter at his home in Krishna Nagar, has told police that he had decided to eliminate his entire family because of prolonged domestic disputes and mental stress. Sahu, who was arrested on Friday for the double murder, was sent to jail on Saturday.Police said Sahu, 56, had frequent arguments at home, including disputes over his daughter Pooja’s personal life and his wife’s accusations against him and their daughter, had left him frustrated. He told police that his daughter had been married twice, but neither marriage worked because of marital disputes. He claimed that allegations of her relationship with another man had become a recurring reason of conflict in the family.Sahu told police that he mixed sleeping pills into tea on Friday night of the incident and served it to his wife and daughter. After both fell into a deep sleep, he strangled them one after the other using a mobile phone charging cable.Police said Sahu subsequently informed them about the killings and reached the police station. A team went to the house, recovered the bodies and collected evidence from the scene.Police said Sahu’s younger daughter and granddaughter survived because the door of their room was locked from the inside.During questioning, the accused expressed regret over his actions and sought forgiveness, according to the police account.Police said the accused had five children. Pooja, his eldest daughter, had returned to live with her parents after the breakdown of her two marriages. She was also living with her daughter from her first marriage. The accused claimed that his wife supported their daughter, which further fuelled his resentment.Additional DCP (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar said neighbours also told police that the couple frequently quarrelled.Police also referred to an earlier incident in August 2025, when Shyam Dulari had left the house with jewellery. Sahu had lodged a missing-person complaint at Krishna Nagar police station. She returned around 10 to 12 days later.
