Man gets life term for killing woman

Lucknow: Additional district judge, Barabanki, Parshuram sentenced one Naseem (25) to life imprisonment for murdering a 21-year-old woman and dumping her body in a well nearly seven years ago.The court convicted Naseem under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (conspiracy) and 364 (kidnapping and abduction with intent to murder), and imposed a fine of Rs 1.40 lakh. Naseem had allegedly been in a romantic relationship with the woman.Govt advocate Mathura Prasad Verma said the case dates back to April 22, 2019, when the accused allegedly murdered the woman following a dispute over his impending marriage. The woman’s father approached Kursi police station on April 23, 2019 and lodged a missing-person complaint. He told the police that his daughter had left home around 11 am on April 22, telling him that she was going to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow.When she failed to return by evening, her younger sister called her on phone. The woman told her that she would be home in about an hour. However, she did not return and subsequent attempts to contact her proved unsuccessful. During the search, the woman’s father received information from a person who claimed to have seen Naseem, a resident of Nauhai village, taking her on his motorcycle the same night when she went missing. During interrogation, Naseem told the police he had been in a relationship with the woman. However, when his marriage was arranged elsewhere else, she objected to it, leading to a dispute between them. Naseem said he strangled the woman on the night of April 22, 2019.After examining the evidence and hearing the prosecution’s arguments, the court convicted Naseem and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
