Kraits do not seek out people. They enter homes primarily because their natural prey does. This possibly increases the potential for snake-human encounters with the risk of life-threatening snakebites, and intentional and unintentional killings of snakes by humans according to Journal of Threatened Taxa.
Rodents, lizards, frogs and even other snakes frequently move into houses, especially where food scraps, grain stores or gaps in walls and floors provide easy access. Kraits follow these scent trails. Studies and field observations show that kraits will forage around and inside buildings when prey is present. Once inside, the snake may continue searching along walls, under furniture or across floors.
