Lucknow: Lieutenant General Sanjay Mitra on Thursday assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Army’s Central Command in Lucknow, a day after Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta superannuated from service on Wednesday.The Army Commander paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Smritika War Memorial before reviewing a Guard of Honour. Lt Gen Mitra also extended his greetings to serving personnel, Veer Naris, veterans, defence civilian employees and their families, acknowledging their contributions to the Command. He said the welfare, morale, professional development and continued excellence of all ranks would remain a priority.Commissioned into the Grenadiers from the Indian Military Academy in 1989, Lt Gen Mitra has over three decades of military service. During his career, he has commanded an infantry battalion, an infantry brigade and an infantry division in northern Jammu and Kashmir and eastern Ladakh. He has also served as an instructor at the Commando School, Belgaum; Chief Instructor (Army) at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington; Squadron Commander in the National Security Guard; and Colonel General Staff at the Army War College.Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in June 2023, he commanded 1 Corps until June 2025 before serving as Director General of Operational Logistics and Strategic Movement at Army Headquarters.
