Lucknow: Around 80% of the Rs 1.28 crore tourism development project at Firozabad’s historic Chhadami Lal Jain Temple has been completed and the full work is scheduled for delivery by the end of Oct, Uttar Pradesh govt said on Thursday. The initiative is part of the state’s broader plan to strengthen the Jain tourism circuit by adding modern visitor amenities while conserving heritage structures, traditional practices and architectural character.Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said preservation and development of Jain heritage sites is a key component of the tourism push, citing the Jain community’s contribution to the state’s cultural and spiritual legacy. He said the objective is to improve facilities for visitors and pilgrims without compromising traditions, and to enable travellers from across the country to experience the destinations in greater comfort while connecting with their heritage.Officials said the upgrade includes a multipurpose hall, a dormitory and decorative mural walls. Construction of the multipurpose hall and dormitory is about 85% complete, while work on the mural walls has reached around 60%. The new facilities are intended to support large gatherings, provide boarding for pilgrims and enhance the cultural ambience of the temple complex.Situated at the main Jain intersection in Firozabad, the marble temple is known for a 42-foot monolithic stone statue of Lord Bahubali, described as the tallest of its kind in North India. The statue was commissioned by philanthropist Seth Chhadami Lal and transported from Karkala in Karnataka on a specialised trolley that crossed 64 hills over three months. The temple took about a decade to construct, and its management trust was formed in 1947.Additional chief secretary, tourism, Amrit Abhijat said the project aims to integrate heritage conservation with modern tourist infrastructure.
