Officials claim 50 outcomes, but no clarity on united declaration

NEW DELHI: India’s Brics presidency has yielded over 50 tangible and practical outcomes, including frameworks and action plans, across the four priority pillars of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, official sources said ahead of the summit that begins Saturday.According to Indian authorities, the takeaways for India include an unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and commitment to combat it in all its forms and manifestations, along with a consensus for reform of institutions of global governance, strengthened multilateralism and support for India’s UNSC membership bid. While there was still no clarity about the summit culminating in a unified declaration because of differences between UAE and Iran on the West Asia situation, govt sources said they were confident of a constructive outcome because of the support received by India’s chairship. The foreign minister-level meeting had earlier ended without a consensual statement because of the discord over West Asia.“With engagement spanning diverse sectors, 400 meetings during the year, India’s chairship has demonstrated strong convening and consensus-building strength. Outcomes helped people of Brics countries, including women, farmers and entrepreneurs,” said an official.
