Create a beautiful bappa mandap at home

Plenty of families like to build their mandap around a specific theme each year, partly for variety and partly because it gives the whole project a clearer direction. Eco-friendly themes built around clay, jute, bamboo and dried flowers have grown increasingly popular, both for their natural, earthy look and for being kinder to the environment come visarjan time. A traditional wada or heritage Maharashtrian theme, using terracotta pots, brass lamps and warm earthy tones, works particularly well for families who want the setup to feel rooted rather than flashy. For those with younger kids at home, a more colourful, playful theme using paper crafts, bright bunting and simple cutouts can turn the whole decoration process into a fun weekend activity rather than a chore handled entirely by the adults.
