New Delhi/Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that Japan’s manufacturing experience, technological expertise and quality-driven industrial culture, combined with UP’s young workforce, large market and infrastructure, could create a new industrial ecosystem.Addressing the inaugural session of the UP-Japan Investment Meet in Delhi, Yogi pitched the state as a long-term industrial partner for Japan, calling for cooperation not only in manufacturing but also in technology, research and development, skill development and global supply chains. The event was attended by a delegation of more than 200 Japanese investors and business leaders led by Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. The CM pointed to initiatives such as the upcoming Japan City near Noida International Airport, dedicated industrial corridors, a 75,000-acre industrial land bank and the recently launched Nivesh 3.0 single-window platform aimed at improving ease of doing business. The investment push translated into tangible outcomes with the launch of two major projects combining Japanese technology and Indian manufacturing capabilities. The larger of the two investments is a Rs 2,025 crore manufacturing facility by Escorts Kubota Ltd in YEIDA Sector 10. The plant will manufacture tractors, construction equipment and allied products and is expected to generate more than 3,800 jobs. According to the company, the first phase will have an annual production capacity of 60,000 tractors and 15,000 construction equipment units. He called for India-Japan strategic partnership to be converted into a concrete economic and industrial partnership between UP and Japanese industry.Yogi highlighted Japan City being developed in the state as a dedicated proposition for Japanese companies. “Located just 3km away from the Noida International Airport, the project is being developed near semiconductor, data centre and electronics manufacturing clusters. The airport is also being developed as a cargo, MRO and logistics hub,” he said.“The next phase of cooperation should focus on creating an industry-ready workforce by linking UP’s young talent with Japanese manufacturing practices. Kaizen, Five-S, lean manufacturing, robotics, automation and precision engineering could be integrated into skill-development programmes,” he said.Yogi also identified green hydrogen, renewable energy and clean technology as emerging areas of cooperation. Two green hydrogen Centres of Excellence are being established through IIT Kanpur, HBTU Kanpur, IIT-BHU and MMMUT Gorakhpur, with Rs 50 crore sanctioned for each centre.A proposed tripartite MoU between JETRO, Invest UP and CII would further facilitate Japanese investments and B2B and B2G partnerships, he said.“UP had emerged as one of India’s top three economies and a growth engine, with its budget, GSDP and per-capita income trebling over the past nine years. From the Land of the Rising Sun to the heartland of India, let us build the industries of the future,” he told the Japanese delegation.
