5 Mistakes married couples should avoid in the bedroom as per vastu

A bedroom is probably the most private space in a married couple’s life.It is where conversations happen after the world goes quiet. It is where disagreements are discussed, plans are made, intimacy develops and the body spends almost one-third of its life resting.Yet, when people think about Vastu, they usually focus on the direction of the bedroom or the placement of the bed. In my experience, some of the smaller things we casually keep around the bed can be equally important from a traditional Vastu perspective. Here are five common mistakes married couples should look at.

1. Two single mattresses joined on one double bed

This is surprisingly common. We buy a double bed but place two single mattresses together. From a Vastu perspective, I generally recommend one continuous mattress for a married couple. Two mattresses create a physical division exactly where we are trying to create togetherness.Even if both mattresses are pushed tightly together, that invisible line remains. For couples, keep the principle simple: one bed, one mattress, one shared sleeping space.

2. Keeping junk inside the bed box

Storage beds are practical, especially in modern apartments where space is limited. There is nothing inherently wrong with using the storage. The problem is what you store there.Broken objects, old bills, unused electronics, forgotten clothes, random papers and things you have not touched for years should not continue accumulating underneath the place where you sleep. If you use bed storage, keep it clean and organised. Bedding, blankets and regularly used items are much better choices.Storage is fine. Hidden clutter is not.

3. Keeping idols or large pictures of gods in the bedroom

Many people keep an idol or photograph of their Ishta Devata near the bed with good intention. However, the bedroom and Puja space serve very different purposes.A married bedroom is associated with sleep, privacy and intimacy. Therefore, I generally advise against creating a temple inside the bedroom or placing large deity pictures and idols, especially directly facing the bed.Wherever possible, give your worship practice a separate, respectful space.

4. Having a mirror directly reflecting the bed

Here is a simple test you can do tonight.Lie down normally on your bed and look around. Can you clearly see yourself or the bed reflected in a mirror? If yes, consider changing its position.Traditional Vastu generally discourages mirrors directly reflecting the sleeping couple. If moving the mirror is impossible, particularly with fixed wardrobes, covering it during sleep can be a practical alternative.

5. Turning the bedroom into your second office

The work-from-home culture has quietly brought laptops, chargers, office files, notebooks and work calls into our bedrooms. And many of them never leave. Your bedroom should eventually tell your mind: work has ended for today.Avoid keeping laptops and office paperwork permanently on the bed. If you must work from the bedroom, create a separate corner and clear the bed before sleeping.
