Youth held for cafe murder in northeast Delhi

New Delhi: Days after a man was shot inside a cafe in northeast Delhi, police have arrested the accused, identified as 23-year-old Mohammad Moin Qureshi. Police said he had killed 24-year-old Faizan on Jan 23 at the cafe in Kabir Nagar by firing multiple rounds at him in the presence of several people. Qureshi later uploaded a video on social media in which he allegedly admitted to the act. His identity was subsequently established through CCTV footage, said police officers.

Investigators said they later received information about Qureshi’s movements in the trans-Yamuna area. They got to know that Qureshi had planned to collect money from somebody near Dheerpur ITI in Timarpur to flee Delhi. A team from the special cell laid a trap, and when Qureshi arrived on a black motorcycle, he was asked to surrender. Instead, he allegedly opened fire at police. After issuing a second warning, police retaliated in self-defence, injuring him on the left leg. Qureshi was then overpowered and taken to a hospital for treatment. tnn
