Youth dies after fire breaks out in tent at Magh Mela

Prayagraj: A 22-year-old youth, who was sleeping in a tent at Magh Mela, died on Friday due to serious burns after a fire broke out late Thursday.SP (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey told TOI that the victim, Manas Mishra, was a resident of the Sarai Inayat area of Prayagraj. His relatives are doing kalpwas at a camp in Prayagwal police station area. Pandey said the victim was staying in the tent allotted to his uncle’s Dharmarth shivir.

According to the police, a tent near Annapurna Marg inside the Prayagwal police station area in Sector 5 of the mela campus went up in flames late Thursday. Sensing trouble, the neighbours and fire department teams immediately rushed to the spot and made efforts to douse the flames. Mishra, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to the district hospital, where he died on Friday.He said Mela police and the fire department are jointly investigating the cause of the fire.
