Worker dies after falling into open stormwater drain in Tiruvallur

Chennai: A 60-year-old worker died after falling into an open stormwater drain in Tiruvallur town on Saturday morning.The deceased, G Babu, worked as a loadman at the vegetable market in Tiruvallur. A native of Valluvapuram near Tiruvallur, he lived with his wife and son.

On Saturday morning, while returning from the market, Babu fell into an open stormwater drain infront of the district health office on North Raja Street. Nearly an hour later, passers-by noticed him and alerted the Tiruvallur Town police. Police rushed to the spot, rescued him in an unconscious state, and shifted him to Tiruvallur govt Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent for postmortem. Police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
