Women jump off share auto to escape drunk men

Chennai: Three women on their way back home from Kundrathur late on Wednesday night attempted to jump out off a moving autorickshaw after the drunk driver and his associate misbehaved with them. In the melee, the vehicle overturned near Nandambakkam and left them injured.Around 9.30pm on Wednesday, three women boarded a share autorickshaw at Kundrathur bus stand to travel to Nandambakkam. The driver and his associate who were drunk attempted to touch the women inappropriately. When the driver sped past their destination, the women panicked and tried to jump out of the moving vehicle. The auto overturned. A bus approaching from behind managed to stop just in time, narrowly avoiding ploughing into them.

Onlookers pulled the men out of the vehicle and beat them up before the police arrived. The accused, Karthikeyan and Suman, both from Kundrathur, were arrested by the Thirumudivakkam police. Locals told police that residents of Nandambakkam, Somangalam, and Periyar Nagar frequently relied on share autorickshaws late at night due to the lack of regular govt bus services. TNN
