Gurgaon: A 20-year-old woman was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident near the IFFCO Chowk Metro station late Sunday night. The victim, identified as Riya, worked as a salesperson at a showroom in Sahara Mall and hailed from Bihar.According to the police, they received a call around 2 am informing them about a woman lying unconscious on the road near the busy IFFCO Chowk stretch. A police team rushed to the spot and found the woman critically injured. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Initial investigations suggested that the woman was hit by an unidentified vehicle that fled the spot after the collision. “The circumstances indicate a road accident involving an unknown vehicle. The driver did not stop after the incident,” a police officer said.Police said no eyewitnesses were immediately available, and the area was relatively deserted at the time of the incident. The victim did not carry any identity documents, which delayed her identification. After sustained efforts, including coordination with her workplace and local contacts, the woman was identified as Riya.The post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday after the victim’s identity was confirmed. Police said the autopsy report would help determine the exact cause of death and the nature of injuries sustained.A case was registered against an unknown driver under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area and nearby roads to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.Investigators are also trying to reconstruct the sequence of events to ascertain whether the woman was crossing the road or walking along the carriageway at the time she was struck. Further investigation is underway, and police said action would be taken once the offending vehicle and driver are identified.
