Lucknow: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 21-year-old woman was electrocuted to death allegedly by her father and brother after she insisted on marrying a man of her choice in Gonda district, police said on Saturday.The accused were arrested and charged with murder. The victim was a resident of Babapurwa Thorhans village of the district.
According to investigators, the woman was in a relationship with a distant relative for nearly two years and they intended to marry.Police said the woman’s father, aged 52, and brother (23) were strongly opposed to their relationship.According to police, on Saturday morning, the father-son duo tried to persuade her to end her relationship. When she refused, they allegedly took her into a room and electrocuted her.Superintendent of police, Gonda, Vineet Jaiswal, said the victim’s hands were tied with a muffler to the leg of a wooden cot, and her mouth was gagged with her ‘dupatta’ before the accused gave electric shocks to her.The family claimed that the woman died after she accidently got electrocuted. However, the woman’s lover alleged that she had been murdered by her family members as they were opposed to the marriage.Police teams, led by city circle officer Anand Kumar Rai and kotwal Shamsher Singh, along with a forensic unit and dog squad, initiated investigation. A case of murder was registered against the woman’s father and brother, and they were arrested.The SP said that during interrogation, they confessed to the crime. Police said items used in the crime, including a muffler, ‘dupatta’, and an electric cable, were recovered from the house.
