Woman dies as tractor hits bike in Gurgaon, mows her down

Gurgaon: A 40-year-old woman died after a speeding tractor-trolley hit the motorcycle she was riding pillion near Garhi Harsaru on Saturday morning. The tractor driver fled the spot after the incident, leaving the vehicle behind.The victim, Seema, worked at a private company in the Sector 93 police post area. She was on her way to work around 8am with a relative, who was riding the motorcycle. Police said that as they neared their workplace, the tractor-trolley hit the motorcycle from the side, causing it to skid. While the rider fell onto the roadside, Seema fell under the tractor and was run over.A passer-by alerted the police control room, following which a police team from Sector 93 police post reached the spot and shifted the injured to a local hospital. Doctors declared Seema brought dead, while the bike rider is undergoing treatment.“The woman was the mother of two children and was on her way to work. We seized the tractor, and efforts are on to identify and arrest the driver,” said the in-charge of Sector 93 police post.A case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In another incident under the jurisdiction of Sector 10 police, a 45-year-old woman, also named Seema, was killed after being hit by a speeding Hyundai Venue car in Sector 37 late on Friday evening.Police said the victim, a native of Bihar, walked out of her workplace and covered a short distance with a colleague when she was hit by a speeding car driven by Praveen, who was leaving his office nearby.The accused failed to control the vehicle while steering out of the premises and hit the woman.“Seema fell on the road and the car ran over her. She was declared brought dead at the hospital, following which her body was sent to the mortuary. The body was handed over to her parents after the post-mortem on Saturday,” said SI Dharambir.Police said the accused recently purchased an automatic vehicle and may have failed to control the speed and apply the brakes. Praveen was taken into custody by Sector 10 police.
