Kanpur: A woman reached a man’s house during his ‘haldi’ ceremony in Bithoor police station area and accused him of rape on the pretext of marriage. Police have registered a case and began an investigation.The woman staged a protest at the venue after learning that the man was marrying someone else, the police said.According to information, the man and the woman had been in an affair for approximately two years. The woman alleged that the man established physical relations with her by promising marriage but later decided to marry another woman.In her complaint to police, the victim stated that she got acquainted with Anurag Singh Yadav, a resident of Hora Bangar, about a year ago through social media. She said they gradually became close and that Anurag established physical relations with her several times by giving a false promise of marriage. The victim said that whenever she raised the topic of marriage, Anurag made excuses and postponed it.ACP (Kalyanpur) Ashutosh Kumar said, “Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered against the man. The two were in a relationship for some time. Police are investigating the matter.”
