Woman, 77, goes overboard Florida cruise ship on New Year’s Day; search underway

The U.S. Coast Guard was searching Thursday for a 77-year-old woman who went overboard a Holland America cruise ship that sailed out of Florida.

Officials said the woman was reported overboard the Nieuw Statendam about 40 miles northeast of Sabana, Cuba.

Multiple crews were out searching for her Thursday by sea and air. The last update was around noon.

Records show the ship left Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 27 for a New Year-themed cruise. The ship was scheduled to make a stop in Key West on Jan. 2 before returning to port.
