Kanpur: Two days after a man and his teenage daughter allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a goods train on the Kanpur-Lucknow rail route in Unnao, police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against five members from the in-laws’ side, including the wife.According to reports, the bodies of Vikas Gupta (45) from Unnao’s Shuklaganj area and his daughter Vedika (13) were discovered on the down track near Sahajani crossing around 9 pm on Monday. Police have registered the case based on a suicide note and a complaint from the deceased’s brother Shivam. A white car bearing a Kanpur registration number was found parked about 200 metres from the spot towards the Dewarakala village. Documents and a mobile phone recovered from the vehicle confirmed that it belonged to Gupta. Based on the vehicle registration details, the family members were informed and an investigation was initiated.Police said Vikas, a private company employee, was allegedly distressed by his wife’s WhatsApp chats with another man and harassment from her family. His brother has accused her of being in touch with a Dubai-based man and harassing Vikas.His wife told the cops that she went to her parents’ place after a heated argument with her husband and in-laws.Circle officer (City) Vineet Singh stated that a case was registered against five persons based on the complaint from the deceased’s brother. “The call records and other information related to the deceased and his wife are being reviewed. Further action will be taken following the investigation,” he said.
