Sangrur: Around 3,000 sports stadiums were being constructed in villages across the state to provide high-quality sports facilities to youth at the grassroots level, and that the Punjab govt would give special priority to the sports sector in the upcoming budget to help the state’s players excel at the national and international levels, minister Harpal Singh Cheema said while addressing players and spectators on the third day of the North Zone Inter-University Handball Championship at Akal College of Physical Education, Mastuana Sahib.He said the Punjab govt was working tirelessly to promote sports in the state and to guide youth in the right direction.He urged young people to actively participate in sports along with their studies, saying sports ensured physical fitness and helped develop discipline, teamwork and leadership qualities. He also encouraged players to stay away from drugs and to maintain discipline while delivering excellent performances on the field.On the occasion, he appreciated the efforts made by the Akal College Council in promoting sports and assured full support from the Punjab govt for any proposals aimed at sports development.
