Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday appealed to Akal Takht jathedar to clarify the issue of political parties holding political conferences during shaheedi melas (martyrdom events) at Fatehgarh Sahib and Muktsar.Warring said that in Dec 2017, the then jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh, had issued an appeal to political parties not to hold political conferences on such solemn and pious religious occasions. “How come the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party held the political conferences today at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar Sahib?” he said, adding, “Would the Akal Takht take action?”Warring said the Congress, in respect out of the Akal Takht direction, had not held any such political conference since 2017. “The Akal Takht directive must be respected by all. I hope the jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib takes note of this,” Warring observed.
