Wife’s ‘killer’ caught after 26 years

Vadodara: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) Rural police arrested a man who had been absconding for 26 years in a case related to the murder of his wife. The accused, Bharathari Kankar, was nabbed from his native village in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh following a tip-off.According to police, Kankar had set his wife on fire in April 2000 near Manjusar, killing her, before dumping her body in a gutter and fleeing the district. He had remained untraceable since then.Police said that while reviewing old cases involving absconding accused, they received specific information about Kankar’s whereabouts. A team was subsequently dispatched to Uttar Pradesh and kept surveillance on his village for a few days before arresting him.
