Kanpur: Weather conditions across Uttar Pradesh are likely to change from Thursday as cloud cover increases and there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest forecast.According to the IMD, a western disturbance will impact the region, leading to cloudy skies and rainfall at isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh on January 22, 23 and 26, while eastern Uttar Pradesh may witness similar conditions on January 23 and 24. The department also forecast isolated thunderstorms and lightning in both eastern and western parts of the state on January 23 and 24. Gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected during this period, which may cause a drop of 2–3°C in both maximum and minimum temperatures.Weather expert S Sunil Pandey from CSA also predicted light drizzle in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh on January 23 and 24. In the Kanpur division, night temperatures are likely to fluctuate by 1–3°C, bringing some relief from severe cold during the night. Meanwhile, Kanpur recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C, which remained the same for the past few days, while the maximum temperature stood at 24.6°C, about 3.5°C above normal. High relative humidity of around 90% and north-westerly winds blowing at 6.4 kmph created a chill factor, although residents experienced warm and sunny conditions during the daytime.Pandey suggested that farmers irrigate their fields if the soil is dry, as adequate moisture is essential for healthy crop growth.
