Chennai: Piped drinking water supply will be suspended in several parts of central and south Chennai on Sunday and Monday due to repair work on a damaged pipeline in the Valasaravakkam zone, Metrowater announced on Saturday.To facilitate repair work on Arcot Road, pipeline water supply will be temporarily suspended from 6am on Feb 1 to 10am on Feb 2 in several areas in five zones, from Teynampet to Adyar.As many as 23 areas across Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur and Adyar zones, including Mylapore, Nandanam, KK Nagar, Ashok Nagar, West Mambalam, Valasaravakkam, Alapakkam, Ramapuram, Nanganallur, Alandur, Adyar, Besant Nagar and Velachery, will face a 28-hour suspension of piped drinking water supply.Metrowater has advised residents to store adequate water in advance. Water will be supplied through tanker lorries to areas without pipeline connections and for emergency needs upon request through ‘Dial for Water’ service and Metrowater website.Officials said supply to hospitals and other essential services will be prioritised. Efforts will be taken to complete the repair and restore normal distribution at the earliest. If the rectification work takes longer than the stipulated time, residents are advised to reach out to the area engineers concerned or raise a complaint to the helpline, Metrowater said.
