Voters wrongly marked dead during SR exercise: AIUDF

Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Wednesday alleged that during the special revision (SR) of voter lists, people who work at a different location from their home within the state, or those who work outside Assam, were shown as “dead” in the voter lists of their areas. The period for filing claims and objections for SR will end on Thursday. At a news conference, AIUDF leader and Mankachar MLA Aminul Islam said, “We saw that complaints came against showing hundreds of people as dead. These people are doing jobs and working as labourers elsewhere. A vote chori attempt was done by showing someone as dead.”He alleged that manipulation was greater in 61 constituencies, where the voting pattern is “not in balance”.Islam also alleged that the SR exercise has been biased and that there was a plan to help BJP win by deleting names from voter lists.Another AIUDF legislator, Rafiqul Islam, alleged that lakhs of voters could be removed from the lists finally.“There is a conspiracy to target 30 to 40 lakh people in this SR exercise,” Rafiqul said. He alleged that the aim was to deprive genuine voters of their voting rights while adding people from other states as voters in Assam.
