‘Vote chori’ charge dominates Cong workers’ meet in Barak

Silchar: Alleging “vote chori” in minority-dominated areas, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday mounted a blistering attack on CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at a Congress workers’ convention at Katigorah in Cachar, accusing the BJP govt of turning a “developed Barak” into a “syndicate-controlled Barak”.Addressing nearly 20,000 Congress workers and supporters drawn from the three districts of Barak Valley, Gogoi alleged corruption and malpractice under the BJP dispensation. “This chief minister steals cattle in Upper Assam, steals land in Karbi Anglong, steals water in tea garden areas, and indulges in vote chori in minority-dominated regions,” he said, branding BJP as “thieves and dacoits”.Calling for heightened vigilance at the grassroots, Gogoi exhorted party workers to act as “responsible police officers” in their respective areas. “Just as the police maintain discipline in society, Congress workers must stand firmly against these thieves,” he said. The convention was also attended by Dhubri MP Rockybul Hussain, Abhijit Mukherjee, son of former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Jharkhand minister Bondu Tirkey, besides several other senior leaders and district committee officials.
