Vadodara: Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has begun work on the Vadsar bridge, which will ensure that low-lying areas do not get cut off from the city when the water in the Vishwamitri rises. The low-lying area has housing complexes and societies such as Casa Residency, Samruddhi Mansion and others and gets cut off whenever the water level in the Vishwamitri rises. The inundation of the road from Koteshwar Mahadev temple to these areas during flooding forced the administration to conduct rescue operations for residents. The area gets cut off even before any major flooding in other low-lying areas of the city. For a permanent solution to these problems, VMC proposed a bridge from the temple to these areas. The bridge will ensure that, even in case of waterlogging, the areas are connected with the city. The bridge department of the VMC recently proposed the bridge. The proposal was cleared by the elected wing of the civic body and work has now begun. The bridge will cost of Rs 31 crore and is expected to be completed in a month’s time. The project was planned and taken up on priority last year after the area was cut off in September.Residents were stranded with no connectivity to the city.VMC officials have also been on tenterhooks on several occasions, as some residents had in the past refused to leave their homes. Instead, they sought supplies, and rescue teams had to be kept on standby to respond to any emergency. The residences are also surrounded by crocodiles.
