Chennai: Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup is expanding its footprint in India beyond electric mobility solutions, smart urban development and renewable energy. The company is planning to set up amusement parks and resorts in the country and is exploring locations in Tamil Nadu for the purpose. The development comes a year after Vietnam’s EV major VinFast inaugurated its first plant outside its home country at Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) in the state.On Monday, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO, VinFast Asia, signed an MoU with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government’s nodal agency for investment promotion, on the occasion of the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026 at Mamallapuram near Chennai. “We are holding discussions,” Chau told TOI on the sidelines of the summit.Vinpearl, part of Vingroup, operates 47 facilities, including 35 hotels and resorts, four amusement parks, two animal safaris, four golf courses and two premium F&B service centres across Vietnam. “We also have a golf course in Australia,” he added. Sources in the industries department said Vinpearl and VinWonders, Vingroup’s entertainment brand, are exploring two or three locations, including Thoothukudi. “We are looking at an investment in excess of ₹1,000 crore from the two companies to establish these facilities,” a state government official said. The development comes two months after Vingroup signed an MoU with the Telangana government for a proposed investment of $3 billion, covering sectors such as smart urban development, electric mobility solutions, healthcare, education, tourism, renewable energy and charging infrastructure.
