Malda: A micro observer engaged in a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing was assaulted by angry villagers at Kumarganj in South Dinajpur on Saturday and another who tried to intervene was also attacked. The hearing was being held at an ICDS centre adjacent to the BDO office in Kumarganj. Voters from booths 123, 124 and 125 under Zakhirpur Gram Panchayat had arrived for the hearing.
According to sources, more than 200 people were marked “no match found” which led to protests. Protesters allegedly pressured micro observer Dibyendu Gorai to change the decision. When he refused, he was allegedly slapped.The second micro observer, Dilip Lakra, reportedly tried to restrain the crowd but was also manhandled. Protesters shouted that despite producing documents, they had been marked “no matching found”.The incident triggered a political row, junior Union minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “Hooliganism by TMC workers is supported by the administration and police.”
